Kids Across America Higher Ground - Tuesday
Today, July 1st, we went to two more villages to minister to the kids. There are about 5,000 villages in this area so we are only hitting a very small portion of what is out there. Each village is basically what we would call a neighborhood, but is remote and separate from the other villages. Some villages have their own “park” areas with basketball courts or baseball fields, so that is where we meet the kids. When our bus drives into the village, our bus driver honks all the way so everyone knows we are here, and kids come running from EVERYWHERE. At the 2nd village today, the kids were pulling the HG students and counselors off the bus before they even got out, climbing all over them, pulling them away as if they were claiming them for themselves. They are all so starved for touch and love. The HG kids did such a great job at showing Jesus’ love and making those kids feel special.
One of the highlights today, as shared in our “Say So”, came from one of the village children. After a couple of our HG students carried some of the boys on their backs and played some games with them (in heat that felt like 100 degrees) the young boys began massaging their backs and one of them even used his own shirt to wipe the sweat from our HG guy’s brow. What a picture of servanthood. . . from a little child. This really touched many of the students when they saw this. We are all learning how difficult a language barrier makes communication, but how love is shown and accepted in any language, even without words.
