FBC of Palm Bay - Monday

Hola from Juan Dolio!! After having Sunday to get to know the DR, SCORE and it’s missionaries, as well as catch up on some rest and have some fun, we were ready to jump into some ministry. Today we woke up from a much better night of sleep and headed to a sugarcane village. We circled through to announce our arrival and just like Denny (a SCORE missionary) has been telling us, there were 50 kids running behind the bus before we reached our destination. They were fascinated with their reflections in the bus windows when we stopped. We all had a blast running the field, jumping rope and playing with the 4 foot beach ball (which popped withing 10 minutes but was a source of entertainment while it lasted). Piggy-back rides were also a favorite. We then went into the community center and ran through our kids program, complete with puppets, a salvation braclet craft and balloon storytelling from Aaron. We returned to SCORE for a rest, lunch and a quick game of “keep it up” in the pool. In the afternoon we went to a Baptist church in San Pedro and went around the neighborhood to invite kids to our program. Within 10 minutes there were 40 kids in the church and we ran through the program again, a lot more effectively after we smoothed out a few technical difficulties from the morning. We returned to SCORE for dinner and more entertainment with “keep it up” in the pool.

The day was awesome but we are definately in a different culture and we have been experiencing frustration from obstacles like the language barrier. It is difficult to minister when we feel like we can’t always talk to the kids but it is cool because it is helping us to work as a team and forcing us to rely on God more then if we were in our own comfort zones. Of course we are having a blast through every minute of it. We would like to thank everyone back home for all of the support through prayer and finances. We are looking forward to seeing what God is going to do in our lives and in the lives of the Dominicans for the rest of the week!!
