Reality Baseball - Saturday
We bid “Goodbye” to Brian, Lloyd, Bill, Chris, Tyler Roth and the 16U team this morning. 15U and 18U teams left the Score hotel at 8:30AM for the new Score International Sports Complex in Boca Chica. This new facility was gifted to Score and opened for the first time last season. So far, two baseball fields, one softball field and a soccer field are operational. Construction is in progress for a pool, basketball and volleyball facilities, along with living facilities for athletes and coaches. The fields are natural turf with clay/cinder basepaths, are of Major League quality and are immaculately groomed and maintained. It was another hot, 90F+ degree day here, but we were blessed with some partial cloud cover and a nice breeze. 15U and 18U games started at 10:00 on adjacent fields. The first games were against local clubs, 15U against the Royals and 18U against a local All Star team. Each team played 7 inning doubleheaders. The second game of each doubleheader was played against teams that were composites of players from several teams, many of which we had played against earlier in the week. 15U coaches Simon, Sites and Schulz each had an opportunity to play, with Simon in left field, Schulz at 1st base plus closing pitcher and a plate appearance by Sites in the 7th.
It was great to see the connection established between our guys and the Dominican players and officials. A lunch break in the dugout after the second game provided another opportunity to share the Gospel with the Dominican players. Coach Simon presented his testimony in the 15U dugout, and coach Pagel for the 18U team. Our players gave away some of their helmets and baseballs again and a few exchanged email addresses. We were originally scheduled for both morning and afternoon games, but a thundershower at the end of our lunch break washed out the afternoon games. The 15U team took away a split from the morning games, and the 18U team again won both games.
For the week, the 15U team is 3W-3L-1T, 16U is 5W-0L and 18U is 7W-0L. We apologize for not being able to update every day as planned. Sometimes in the late evenings as we try to wrap-up, the internet gets pretty busy and we are not able to upload. We head to the airport at 11:00AM tomorrow morning.
