Grace Christian (NC) Basketball - Tuesday
We began the day with a visit to the Santo Domingo “Straw Market,” a variety of shops. I’m sure your children were good stewards and bought only special gifts for loved ones which were acquired at “cheapy cheapy prices!” We then had one of the most moving, yet troubling experiences. We visited a disability orphanage, where we all were reminded of God’s grace to us. Many of the children were profoundly retarded. As we each struggled with ways to express love to them, our hearts broke as we considered the challenges which confront each of these lives. We enjoyed a uniquely Dominican dining experience as we lunched at McDonalds! While eating on the patio, we heard more car horns in 30 minutes then an average American hears in a lifetime. We saw Christopher’s son, Diego Columbus’, home and fort from the early 1500s—of course you know how much your kid’s love history. We traveled to a rather poor area to play our next game on a covered concrete court. Both of our teams again played hard and defeated Los Caribe. Peter, Melanie and Mr. Taylor shared and it appeared several folks may have responded. That evening, we had a service with all the 200+ folks ministering through SCORE this week—sports, medical and general. Ron Bishop, SCORE founder spoke. He used 2 Cor. 5:20 to remind us we are Christ’s ambassadors.
