Christian Central Academy - Tuesday

Day three in the Dominican has been rewarding in many ways.  The temperature is hot! We are enjoying the mission work as well as getting to really know each other.  We have had tears of joy and tears of sadness today.  The needs are great here and it seems so small the little we do, but as many groups do a little, God’s love shines through. Read some of the kids thoughts of our day.  Look for more pictures on the snapfish.com website.  Go to www.snapfish.com, login/username e-mail is: dwadecca@gmail.com and the password is CCA2008.  Keep praying.  All are well.

On a day that included a series of 80s song renditions, some hardcore bargaining, and an awesome hairstylist, we managed to actually pull something out of today. A trip into the capital of the D.R., Santo Domingo, meant an hour-long bus ride for our class, and a lot of karaoke style singing, and close quarters for a bit too long. The events that we as the senior class pursued today, involved some shopping at the straw market, some ministry on the city streets, as well as a visit to an orphanage with handicapped Dominican children. Shopping was an interesting experience for most of us. It was a little tough to communicate with some of the salespeople, but Kurt took care of that. His outgoing spirit, and boisterous bargaining, he was able to help some members in our class get some pretty sweet deals. Jewelry was a common buy amongst bags of coffee and other trinkets.  While walking through the streets, we passed out tracts to people who were quite receptive of them. After one of our classmates handed one of the locals a tract, we watched as another man prayed with him, showing how the Lord didn’t care that we couldn’t speak Spanish, His work was going to be done.  After a tour of some early colonial landmarks in the heart of the capital, our class headed out to the handicapped orphanage.  Some of us began in a rehabilitation room, handing out stuffed animals. The kids were excited not only to receive toys, but also because we got on the floor to play with them.  Part of us then moved upstairs to the boy’s floor of the orphanage.  While there, we were blessed as we saw how the kids were so joyful, even though they were mentally or physically disabled. Our time at the orphanage was as much of a blessing to the kids as it was to us.  After an emotional goodbye, we piled onto the bus and headed back to the compound.  As we continue our week here in paradise, we ask that you keep us in your prayers as we wait to see what God has in store for us with each new day. Thank You and God Bless –Katie Smith & Tim McAllister
