Cedarville Univ Womens Soccer - Wednesday
Today we started out by going to a local market to purchase food to take to the sugarcane village. A sugarcane village is basically a village that is supported through the planting and harvesting of sugarcane. We were able to buy enough food to feed 17 families for between 4 days to a week, depending on the size of the family. We then headed to another sugarcane village to play with the kids. We got there and the kids just came from every direction, flocking toward the bus. We got out and started playing wiffle ball, volleyball with a basketball, basketball and other games. Some of the little girls’ took our girls hands and sat them down to braid their hair. We also gave lots of piggyback rides, but they were calling us horses and smacking us to run faster!! We sat the kids down and sang, did a testimony and shared the Gospel with them. We stayed there about 1 1/2 hours before we had to leave to head to another sugarcane village to hand out the food. There, we were also able to share a testimony and sing and the people were really touched by it. Our translator was able to really talk to one of the guys who kept saying that they just weren’t ready for this step. It was incedible to watch the interaction.
After the sugarcane village, we came back to SCORE to eat lunch before heading right back out for our clinic. We got to the stadium in LaRomana and it was just like the other one…pretty much all dirt field, with trash, rocks and glass everywhere. It’s sad to see how much they don’t care about their soccer fields here. Baseball is another story!! The clinic was short, but went very well. It was pretty much all older kids and most of them had played soccer before. After the clinic we gathered everyone together, including those in the stands, and did our skit, sang a song, did two testimonies and shared the J3:16 ball with them. Once again, God was working tremendously in our girls and those listening!!
Our game was against one of the teams that was at the clinic, made up of mostly high school girls. We ended up winning 1-0 on a penalty kick in the second half. We were able to give them the J3:16 braclets and some t-shirts after the game and got a chance to talk as well. One of the girls thanked us for coming and sharing the good news of Christ with her team…she is a Christian!! The head of their organziation also presented us with a medal.
Even though it was a long day, it was well worth it and we get to do it all over again. Pray for tomorrow as we go to an orphanage to play with the kids and take items we brought for them. We also have another clinic and another game as well.
